FIRST LOOK Gorilla glass 2: "Thickness of 20%, but has good STRENGTH"

Pop quiz: What's new, thinner and still made of Gorillas? Gorilla Glass 2, of course. A few days ago we saw the announcment that Corning was bringing the well-named scratch-resistant glass back to CES thinner than ever -- while also keeping it just as structurally strong.
Sure, 20 percent thinner may not seem like a lot, but keeping the glass thinner is something that many manufacturers want for reasons such as enhanced color reproduction -- color isn't displayed oddly because of the screen, and believe it or not the thinner screen will also allow for more accurate touch sensativity. With their glass on more than 600 product models you would think that these guys know what they are doing, and that "thin is in" and Gorilla Glass 2 is going to be something we definitely look forward to. While adoption times will differ by manufacturer they do anticipate to see Gorilla Glass 2 replacing the original within the next six months.
Hit the break to check out our full interview with Corning.

Nokia N9 with Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean

Nokia N9 was unveiled by the Finnish manufacturer at Nokia World 2011 running the Linux MeeGo OS. Now, the developers have ported the Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean OS to this handset, to prove the versatility of the Android OS.
According to a report by UnleashThePhone, the developers at NITDroid project have ported the latest iteration of Android to the first MeeGo OS handset, N9. They have released a video, which shows some of the features of the Jelly Bean OS on Nokia N9.
The Jelly Bean OS has been ported on to the Nokia N9 before 90% of the Android smartphones in the market have received the update. There are no details about when a stable Jelly Bean update will be rolled out to the N9.
Earlier this year, Gizbot carried a report, in which Nokia N9 was successfully running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS. Moreover, the MeeGo OS is getting an app store, like Google Play Store for Android and App Store for iOS.

Nokia N9 sports a 3.9 inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels, which is 251 ppi pixel density. The handset is equipped with a 1 GHz Cortex A8 processor, 1 GB RAM and PowerVR SGX530 GPU.
It has an 8 MP rear camera and a front facing VGA camera. It packs connectivity features like Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, HSDPA 14.4 Mbps, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP and NFC. The handset is powered by a 1450 mAh Li-ion battery, which offers 7 hours talktime and 450 hours standby time.
Moreover, the Nokia N9 will be the last MeeGo handset, as the OS is being used by Jolla Mobile, which has recently come up with a new MeeGo smartphone supporting the Android apps.

Nokia Android - First Look

Nokia is one of the world”s most prestigious and most reputed companies when it comes to mobile handsets. They have years of technical expertise and knowledge that have helped them conquer great heights. The manufacturer is well known for its reliability and service backup.
Nokia has in the recent past been flooding the mobile scenario with surprises. First it was the turn of the N9 which was Nokia”s first Meego Venture. It was a Superphone from Nokia that ran using the Linux based Meego OS. Nokia launched the mobile with Meego OS even though the Meego OS was fast losing its appeal.
Another stumble happened when the news about the first Windows Mobile powered phone from Nokia leaked into the internet. The company however did not comment on any questions raised about the phone.
Before the entire buzz surrounding the Windows based phone has settled down a bit, another shock was propagated in the Internet regarding Nokia Android Phone. The leaked pictures of the Nokia phone indicate that the Nokia Android phone runs on either Froyo or Gingerbread versions of the Android OS. The Nokia phone is yet to be named or announced so there is no news regarding its specs and features. However there is some mention of its name being Nokia NB72.
Nokia Android Phone in its first impression from the leaked pictures looks more like an i-Pod styled handset designed on the cues of the N9. However, the credibility of this picture is an issue as there have been previous fake rumours and pictures of the phone storming the internet. However, the possibility of the phone being a test version cannot be ruled out. This could very well be a prototype model.
However, Nokia is currently focusing on its Windows based phones so we cannot expect the Android based phone to hit stores any time in the near future. But Nokia as mentioned earlier, is full of surprises. So nothing can be taken for granted.
Apparently the pictures of the Nokia Android phone might somehow be linked to earlier revelations by guys at Nokia that they are working on a Android powered phone and this prototype might well be the first venture of Android OS over a Nokia hardware.
The leaked pictures were found on the same website that first published pictures of Nokia”s Windows based mobile handset. It was also met with the same amount of suspicion but proved to be right all the way when Nokia itself launched the mobile at the Nokia Communications Event 2011.
So if the internet leakage history is anything to beckon with, then we can be sure of a mouth watering Nokia Android phone too in the coming years.
